Bronzed Beauty

by: Malliga Nathan

This bronze and gold necklace makes me think of tanning luxuriously in the sun poolside with a cool drink in hand. Not sure why maybe cause it resembles the colours on the Hawaiian Tropics bottles I see in the store!

String beads on in the following patterns until it reaches approximately 9.25 inches. Do not crimp the end before stringing. Instead use the bead stoppers on each end. If you don't have stoppers tape works fine.

Strand 1 -1 Large oval, 1 size 8/0 seed bead.
Strand 2 - size 11/0 seed beads.
Strand 3 - small oval beads
Strand 4 - size 8/0 seed beads.
Strand 5 - large oval beads

NOTE: When crimping all strands be sure leave a little space so the strands stay soft and flexible when they curve and have been braided.

Crimp strands 1 to 5 as follows:
Add 1 -8/0 seed bead and 2 crimps. Squeeze both crimps flat one at a time. Feed excess wire through the 8/0 seed bead and if possible a few more beads. (for some of the strands the bead holes are too small. So I suggest double crimping.
Strand 6 - First make the charms to be strung onto the beading wire. 6 of the large oval with an 8/0 seed bead on top and 7 of the small oval with an 8/0 seed bead on top. Then string up in the following order.

17 - 8/0 seed beads, *1 small oval, 1 - 8/0 seed bead, 1 - small oval charm, 1 - 8/0 seed bead, 1 - small oval, 1 - 8/0 seed bead, 1 large oval charm, 1 - 8/0 seed bead. ( repeat from * 5 more times) Then string on 1 - small oval, 1 - 8/0 seed bead, 1 - small oval charm, 1 - 8/0 seed bead, 1- small oval, 17 - 8/0 seed beads.

Crimp the ends leaving a loop at the end that is just large enough for the 18 gauge wire. Weave the ends of the soft flex back into some of the beads.

Putting it all together:

Cut two 5 inch lengths of 18 gauge wire.

Wire and make a partial wrapped loop on one end of each wire

String each strand onto the loops of one piece of wire starting with strand 6 then 1-5 close the loop tightly. Separate the strands keeping 1 & 2, 3&4, and 5.

Braid them loosely excluding strand 6.

Then string the other ends of the strands onto the loop of the 2nd piece of wire then the 6th strand and close and wrap the loop tightly.

Add the hammered end cap and 1 goldtone 6mm bead to the wire and make a loop on each end. Add about 4 - 4.5 inches of chain to each end (depending on your desired length).

Using a jumpring add the clasp to one end and a jumpring to the end of the other chain.

You're done! Enjoy!
